The Dholera Metro Rail Project is an initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity between Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). This project is an integral part of the Pune-Mumbai-Ahmedabad rapid rail corridor, showcasing the state’s vision for seamless and efficient transportation.

The metro network will span approximately 100 kilometers and is divided into two primary phases:

Phase 1 (61.55 km):

Route 1: APMC/Vasna to Akshardham (Gandhinagar) via Ashram Road, Motera, and Koba Circle.

Route 2: Ahmedabad Junction to Thaltej via Delhi Darwaja.

Route 3: Koba Circle to GIFT City and Gandhinagar.

Route 4: Koba Circle to Dholera Airport.

The total project cost is estimated at ₹7,000 crores, with funding structured through a collaborative model. Both the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat will contribute 20% of the cost each, while the remaining 60% will be financed through loans from foreign institutions. The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation has been tasked with ensuring the project’s successful execution.

Once operational, the Dholera Metro will dramatically cut travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera, offering a quick, eco-friendly, and efficient mode of transport. It is projected to accommodate 80,000 passengers per hour (40,000 in each direction), with daily ridership expected to reach 1.7 million by 2031.

Beyond improving transport, the metro is expected to be a major driver of economic growth by enhancing access to the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). The metro will integrate effectively with other major infrastructure projects, such as the expressway and the Dholera International Airport, creating a comprehensive and interconnected regional transportation network.
